Manhattan Mayor, Village Board Honor Outgoing Trustees
Two trustees appeared in their last Village Board meeting. The board and Mayor Adrieansen paid tribute to their service to the community.
MANHATTAN, IL — With the April 4 elections completed, the Village of Manhattan said goodbye to two outstanding trustees who chose not to seek reelection in this year’s election. Michael Naughton and Erin McDonough participated in their last Village Board meeting and were honored for their service to their community. Mayor Mike Adrieansen recognized both trustees for their work on behalf of residents.
"On behalf of the residents of Manhattan I want to thank both Erin and Mike for their service to our community," said Mayor Adrieansen. "There are often lots of sacrifices that local elected officials make in service to their neighbors. Both of these trustees have been great partners as we work to address the challenges of our community."
Trustee Mike Naughton and his wife Linda have been longtime residents of the Village of Manhattan. Mike previously served as Mayor from 1989 to 1993 and was then elected to Village Trustee in 1995 serving until now. As Mayor, Naughton improved technology in the Village offices and updated Village ordinances. He has been a steady voice for the history of the village. He previously led economic development efforts as a trustee and has served in numerous capacities outside of municipal government. He also has practiced law in Manhattan for over 30 years. With over 32 years of service to the Village of Manhattan, he will be missed by many.

She was appointed in 2016 and then elected to a full four-year term in 2019 with a total of seven years on the Village Board. McDonough has been active in the community serving on the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, a member of Manhattan on Tap, and assisted in creating the community gardens in town.

"I loved my time serving the community as a Village Trustee these last seven years," stated McDonough. "I leave knowing the Village is in good hands and I can’t wait to see what the future holds! Thank you to my family, my friends and the residents who’ve always supported me."
Mayor Adrieansen thanked the two trustees for their service and wished them well in all their future endeavors. "We know that they will remain active in the Manhattan community in their own ways, and we hope that our residents will thank them for all their contributions in making Manhattan a great place to live, work and raise our families."
At the May 2 meeting of the Village Board, two new trustees will be sworn in: Tom Doyle and Lucy Neighbors. In addition, Bob Dilling was reelected on April 4 and will join Tom and Lucy in being sworn in for their four-year terms.
