MONEE, IL — 'Kings' stick together, so when the burger chain bearing the same name heard of the plight of a previously abandoned dog and its tearful reunion with its owner, they had to do something.

Burger King responded to the story of King—who was recently reunited with his owner after having been abandoned outside a Monee Burger King location—with a little fast food love.

"From one (Burger) King to another, we want to send you some love!" the chain wrote to South Suburban Humane Society, the shelter shared on social media. They sent shelter staff some Burger King treats, including some Impossible Whoppers—and they're sending a care package to King's mom, staff said. They've also pledged support of the shelter's upcoming fundraiser gala, staff wrote.

King found his way to the humane society after he was turned over to Monee police after being found outside the fast food joint. Monee police tried to track down the dog's owners, before eventually turning him over to the humane society. Just a day after he was relocated, King's owner arrived to share their heartbreaking story of separation.

The dog was never meant to be left there, his owner told South Suburban Humane Society. She had moved in with family following a medical event, and a family member left King there without her knowledge. She wanted so badly to keep the dog she loves, she told staff. She had been injured at work and suffered post concussion syndrome, rendering her unable to work, according to a GoFundMe started on the pair's behalf.

King's owner found a temporary living arrangement, and the two were reunited earlier this week, with assistance from the shelter. The GoFundMe for the two has raised $13,000 in just under a week.

"We have some amazing news," the humane society wrote on social media. "King and his mom are reunited! She was able to find some temporary living arrangements where she could bring him and we were overjoyed to reunite them today!"

"She knows that we are here for a lifetime of support. Thank you all so much for being a part of this journey with us!
