NAPERVILLE, IL — Police seized four loaded guns during a traffic stop in Naperville Saturday that landed a convicted felon in jail. Marcus Carroll, 30, of Calumet City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of a weapon by a repeat felony offender in connection with the incident.

Police reported that they saw a handgun in a parked car around 2 a.m. The car, which police say was driven by Carroll, was pulled over shortly after for committing "numerous traffic offenses," according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office (DCSAO).

Officers reported that during a subsequent search, they found a Glock 43 9mm with a fifty-round drum magazine on the car's floorboard beneath the driver's seat.

Prosecutors say police also located a backpack that was partially opened in the backseat. Officers reported that the backpack contained a loaded 9 mm Glock 19, a loaded 9 mm Springfield Hellcat and a .40-caliber Glock 23 equipped with a switch to make it fully automatic.

Carroll was arrested and taken to DuPage County Jail, where he was detained pretrial.

“The safety of DuPage County residents remains the top priority of my office,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, “With a history of multiple felony convictions, including armed robbery with a firearm and vehicular hijacking, Mr. Carroll is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. The allegation that he was in possession of four loaded weapons, one with a fifty-round drum and another that had been modified to allow it to fire fully automatic, are extremely troubling."

Carroll is set to appear in court on June 23.
