From Tuesday through Dec. 2, the north side of 4th Avenue between Ellsworth Street and Center Street will be closed due to ongoing construction as part of the final phase of Metra’s platform station improvements. During this time frame, the will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The closures are necessary for workers to pour concrete for the reconstruction of the southeast portion of the platform. All work is weather dependent; notice of schedule changes and other information about the project will be posted to the city’s website.
The closures will impact Pace bus passenger pick-up/drop-off activity; daily fee parking spaces; and vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian access to the train station. Commuters should expect delays and allow for additional time during their commute. Due to these station restrictions, regular commuters are encouraged to purchase their monthly passes early. Monthly passes can also be purchased between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Union Station. Closure of the train station building will not affect the Metra or Amtrak train schedule.
