Naperville On Ice Event Cancelled Due to Warm January Weather

With warmer-than-expected temperatures predicted in the Naperville area for the next week, the Naperville On Ice event originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7 has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

The free event was planned by the Chicago Ice Dance Foundation, Creative Ice Skating, and the to celebrate the sport of ice skating in Naperville.  The afternoon was scheduled to include open skating, basic skills instruction for figure skating and hockey enthusiasts, demonstrations, food, games and music.

In order for the Park District to make ice and open its rinks for skating and hockey, a minimum of 72 hours of constant temperatures of 15-degrees or below is needed. Additionally, sled hills, which are currently closed due to a lack of snowfall, will open once the soil is frozen and there are a minimum of two inches of snow with no visible grass.
