The City of Naperville invites residents and interested parties to learn more about the proposed districts for the City through a series of six open houses taking place through June. Each of the first five open houses will be held within their respective districts, with the sixth and final open to residents of all five districts. The purpose of the open houses is to explain the rationale behind the proposed district map and answer questions residents may have about the process or how districting affects them.
The District 1 Open House will be held on Tuesday, March 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Public Works Service Center, 180 Fort Hill Drive. A formal presentation will take place at 6:30 p.m. followed by an open question and answer session with a panel of City staff. Staff will also be available to answer individual questions or review information on a one-on-one basis. For more information, including an interactive map of the proposed districts, visit www.naperville.il.us/districts.aspx.
In the November 2010 election, voters approved a referendum requiring that the City divide into districts beginning with the 2015 municipal election. At the August 16, 2011, City Council meeting, the City Council directed a team of interdepartmental City staff to develop a map showing the proposed districts. To determine appropriate boundaries, the team utilized census population data as well as the City’s subdivision map and County precinct boundaries. The proposed districts are close to equal population, maintain the integrity of neighborhoods and respect geographic boundaries such as major arterial roads.
