Mayor A. George Pradel and the Naperville City Council would like to extend an invitation to Naperville residents to volunteer to fill four open positions on the Fair Housing Advisory Commission.
Interested applicants should visit www.naperville.il.us/boards.aspx to download and review an application form. The form asks for basic information such as name and address and also asks why you are interested in serving on a board or commission. The application, along with a copy of an individual’s resume, can be submitted by mail or in person to the Mayor’s Office at the Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St., or by e-mail to johnsonc@naperville.il.us.
The Fair Housing Advisory Commission plays an important role in discouraging illegal and unethical housing practices by promoting and encouraging fair housing to all. The Commission’s objective is to ensure that all people have a fair and equal opportunity to purchase, own, lease or occupy housing within the City of Naperville without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, familial status, physical or mental handicap or disability, military status, sexual orientation or legal source of income.

The Commission consists of nine members generally appointed on the basis of areas of interest or expertise by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. Members serve three year terms or until a successor is appointed. The Commission is regularly scheduled to meet the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. “The role of residents on the Fair Housing Advisory Commission is very valuable,” Mayor A. George Pradel said. “The City benefits greatly from the expertise and opinions of its residents on how to make housing available to everyone. By participating on a board or commission, you are playing an important civic role in the community and helping to further the rich tradition of volunteerism that exists in Naperville. You can make a difference.”
