Centennial Beach Drowning: Death Investigation Underway

NAPERVILLE, IL — Police are conducting a death investigation after a 27-year-old man fatally drowned at Centennial Beach in Naperville Thursday.

The man was in the pool's deep end with his friends just before 5:45 p.m. when they all began to swim to a floating dock near the center of the deep end. Friends told police they looked back for the man, but did not see him.

Police say the man's friends searched the deep end and the searched along the shore, but were unable to locate the man. They told lifeguards, who removed the unresponsive man from the water around 6:06 p.m., a news release said.

The swimmer was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

According to police, it does not appear foul play was involved in the drowning death. The police department and the DuPage County Coroner's Office are working together to determine the man's cause of death.

Centennial Beach was closed Friday and will be closed again Saturday. Regular hours are set to resume Sunday.
