City Buildings Closing To Public Nov. 20 Due To Increase In COVID-19 Cases

To help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the City of Naperville is closing all City buildings to the public beginning Friday, Nov. 20 and urging residents to follow new guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

New state restrictions that go into effect Friday are expected to last for at least two weeks – or until there are decreases in test positivity rates and hospitalizations. These restrictions urge the public to stay at home as much as possible, limit gatherings and celebrate upcoming holidays only with members of their household. The updated guidelines also place new regulations on retail stores, personal care services, fitness centers, hotels, workplaces, bars and restaurants, recreational activities, theaters and cultural institutions. The closure of all City buildings to the public is scheduled to last until Monday, Jan. 4, 2021. Although buildings will be closed, the delivery of City services will continue. First responders with the Naperville Police and Fire Departments will continue to provide emergency assistance and respond to all calls for service. Staff with Naperville’s municipal water and electric utilities will continue to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of utility services. Meetings of the City Council, as well as City boards and commissions, will continue to be conducted virtually.

Other City business still can be conducted online or through emails or phone calls. The public can use the City’s online help center or call (630) 420-6111 to reach the appropriate department.

Residents who intend to file petitions of candidacy to run for City Council in the 2021 Consolidated General Election may still submit their packets on Nov. 23, which is the final day of the filing period. Candidates are asked to call the City Clerk’s Office at (630) 305-5300 when they arrive to arrange a meeting outside on the upper level of the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. A Clerk’s Office staff member will meet the candidate outside to receive the packet and provide a receipt.
