NAPERVILLE, IL — A Dunkin Go development recently got the..."Go"-ahead (ahem) from the Naperville City Council. The store, which will offer drive-thru service for ordering and app order pickup, will be built at the intersection of Route 59 and Diehl Road.

The approval comes after the city's planning and zoning commission recommended the proposal. The owner, Prakash Patel, currently owns two other Dunkin' Donuts locations in Naperville.

The Dunkin Go will have a double drive-thru that can accommodate up to 18 vehicles. The store will also feature the word "Naperville" on its signage to serve as a welcome to southbound commuters entering North Naperville.

At Tuesday's city council meeting, one resident urged the city to require the Dunkin' Go to provide a walkup window for cyclists and pedestrians before approving the requested zoning variances.

The question initially prompted council member Holzhauer to push the petitioner for more information about the lack of a walkup window. To this, the development's architect explained that adding a walkup window would require a reworking of the current building plans.

"If it meets the safety requirements, I don't think it's up to us to tell him how to build his building. It's his call," council member Benny White said.

He added, "I don't think the variances have anything to do with the fact there's not a walkup window there."

The motion was unanimously approved by the city council with a 9 to 0 vote.
