NAPERVILLE, IL — Local residents who use Naperville commuter lots to park after they catch a Metra train will soon see changes in how they pay for those parking places as a new policy is slated to go into effect on Monday.

Certain city lots will shift to a daily parking rate of $3 to start the New Year after the Naperville City Council approved a resolution to move away from quarterly parking payments in September. The daily parking rate will begin on Monday, and weekly (5 percent) and monthly (10 percent) discounts will be offered for those willing to pay for longer periods, the city said.

Reserved parking spaces for seniors and expectant mothers will also be available starting Monday, the city said.

Commuters who park at the Naperville or Route 59 Metra lots began paying for daily parking on Oct. 9 using their license plate number rather than their parking space number.

Commuter parking permits will remain valid through Sunday before the new daily rate takes effect on Monday – the first day of 2024. Additionally, the city announced this fall that the Kroehler Lot at the Naperville Station became available for daily fee parking.

The Burlington Lot will be reserved for permit holders through the end of the year. All Burlington and Kroehler permit holders should park in the Burlington Lot. Route 59 permit holders may park in any available space on the north side of Route 59.

While the daily fee goes into effect on Monday, parking will continue to be free after 6 p.m., as well as on weekends and major holidays, the city said.

Spaces at the DuPage Children’s Museum, as well as the Parkview and 190 E. 5th Avenue lots cost $5; all other spaces are $2 until Dec. 31 before the rate increases by $1 on Monday.

The daily fee parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The fee is paid at the automatic payment machines located on the South platform at the Naperville Station and on the North platform at the Route 59 Station.
