“The presence of these dignitaries demonstrates not only the importance of this milestone, but also The Danish Home’s cultural significance in Chicago and beyond,” said Scott Swanson, president and CEO of The Danish Home.
The first of its scope in nearly 60 years of The Danish Home’s 134-year history, the new construction features five independent living apartments, nine additional private healthcare suites and several other renovations throughout the community, including improvements to the central mansion, built in 1914.

Founded in 1891 by 12 Danish women committed to ensuring that older adults would not age alone in a new country, The Danish Home now embraces a diverse population while continuing to serve as a vibrant center for Danish-American culture.
“With the building expansion, Danish-American clubs, lodges and organizations will have new meeting spaces and common areas to enjoy as well as wonderful opportunities to introduce next generations to The Danish Home and the Danish-American community,” said Linda Steffensen, development manager of The Danish Home Foundation.
