Driver Dies After Crash Sends Vehicle Into Pond: Naperville Police
A 35-year-old Wheaton woman was killed after her Nissan was struck by another vehicle Wednesday in Naperville, police said.
NAPERVILLE, IL — A 35-year-old Wheaton woman died of her injuries after her vehicle was struck by a Ford Bronco and came to rest partially submerged in a pond, police said Thursday.
Naperville police and fire responded to the crash just after 8 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of South Naper Boulevard and Hobson Road.
Police said Sarah A. Jelgerhuis was driving a 2020 Nissan Kicks and turned left from southbound Naper Boulevard towards eastbound Hobson Road. While turning, police said her vehicle was hit by a 2023 Ford Bronco driven by a 17-year-old Naperville girl, who had been driving north on Naper Boulevard.

The Nissan came to rest north of the intersection, partially submerged in a pond, according to police.
Jelgerhuis was taken to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries, officials said.

"Due to the nature of the crash, traffic crash investigators and reconstruction specialists from the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene," police said in a release. "This traffic incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit at (630) 420-8833."
