Ex-Employee With Gun, Hatchet Causes Warrenville Evacuation: Cops
Hours after the incident, police said the man was in custody.
WARRENVILLE, IL — A man is in custody after police responded to a report that he showed up to his former workplace in a large office complex with a gun and a hatchet, Warrenville police said.
Officers responded to 4580 Weaver Parkway around 11:46 a.m. According to police, the man, who was by himself, claimed he was owed money from his former employer.
With assistance from surrounding agencies, the Warrenville Police Department and MERIT SWAT unit searched the building, but said the man fled before officers arrived.

Attorney Kathleen Zellner, who has an office in the building, told Patch the building was shut down and everyone inside was evacuated after someone entered the it with an axe. It was initially believed to be an active shooter situation, she said.

Police from nearby Lisle and Naperville were also at the scene Friday afternoon as drones hovered over the building, which is in the Cantera Business Park. The building houses Zellner's office and several others, including a doctor's office and a pharmacy.

On social media, residents at nearby businesses and offices reported being on lockdown as police searched for the man.
Police said no one was injured, and the man, whose name has not been released, was identified, tracked and taken into custody by police.
