Feds Silent on Secret Naperville Spa Raid
The FDA raided a Naperville beauty spa — but won't talk about it.

NAPERVILLE, IL — The Food and Drug Administration raided a Naperville beauty spa last month but won’t say why — or what they did there.
The Naperville police confirmed they assisted the FDA in executing a search warrant at New Body Care Spa on Book Road.
“They were doing an investigation in reference to unapproved medical products,” according to the police.

The New Body Care Spa specialized in facial peels, I-lipo, body shaping, laser hair removal, cellulite reduction, body contouring, acne treatment and toenail fungus treatment, among other things, according to its website.
FDA spokeswoman Lisa Misevicz referred questions about the raid to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago, Joe Fitzpatrick, refused to comment or give any information on the spa raid.

“We don’t talk about any kind of investigative work,” Fitzpatrick said.
A lawsuit filed earlier this month against the New Body Care Spa references the FDA raid. The lawsuit said the spa “vacated and abandoned” its rental space after the raid and that its unidentified owner or owners violated the conditions of the lease.
The lawyer who filed the suit, Jacquelyn Leleu, failed to return calls for comment.
The agent registered with the secretary of state for New Body Care Spa, Ted R. Baranowski, said he knows nothing about what went on there.
“I have no idea what they do at that business,” Baranowski said.
“I’m just the one who is filing annual reports, if it’s needed,” he explained. When asked if he knew the person listed as the spa president, Agata Fijolek-Kuwik, Baranowski said, “We’re representing so many different companies, it’s hard to say.”
Fijolek-Kuwik said she was not in the New Body Care Spa business anymore.
“No, we close it,” she said, and added, “I don’t want to talk to anybody,” before hanging up the phone.
