NAPERVILLE, IL — This summer, crews are tentatively set to start work on the last phase of the North Aurora Road Improvement Project, which involves tearing down the Canadian National/Wisconsin Central Railroad bridge that spans the roadway. The bridge demolition and replacement will lead to road closures, with details available after a contractor is chosen at an upcoming project meeting on May 2.

During the first phase of work, which wrapped in 2023, North Aurora Rod was widened from three lanes to five lanes. The new traffic pattern includes double lanes for both eastbound and westbound traffic, along with a center turning lane.

Sidewalks, a sound wall and a trail were also added as part of this initial phase.

The North Aurora Road Project Team will meet May 2 to review results of phase two's IDOT contract bidding and talk about "next steps," according to village documents.

The bid letting date had been initially set for March 7, but was delayed until April 25 due to a delay in federal authorization, per minutes from the North Aurora Road Project's Jan. 29 meeting.
