Fire Causes $200,000 in Damage to South Naperville Home

A malfunctioning ceiling exhaust fan sparked a fire on the second floor of a south Naperville home Thursday evening.

A fire caused about $200,000 in damage to a south Naperville home Thursday evening.

No one was injured in the fire and the Naperville Fire Investigation Team determined that the cause of the fire was due to a malfunctioning ceiling exhaust fan in a bathroom on the second floor of the house at 2739 Pennyroyal Circle, according to the Naperville Fire Department. 

Firefighters were called to the scene at 6:38 p.m. after several neighbors called 911 to report smoke and fire coming out of the roof of the house, according to the fire department.

Crews arrived to the scene at 6:43 p.m., later bringing a total of 10 vehicles and 24 fire personnel. The fire was brought under control in about seven minutes, according to the fire department.  

The second floor of the home sustained moderate amounts of damage as a result of the fire. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) deemed the building uninhabitable.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police Department and Naperville’s Emergency Management Agency. The Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department provided coverage at two of Naperville’s fire stations during this incident. While providing this stand-by coverage, one of the Lisle-Woodridge fire units responded to a separate incident that took place, according to the fire department.
