Groundbreaking For Naperville Gold Star Families Memorial Sunday

The monument will be dedicated to families in Naperville who have lost a loved one in any war.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A groundbreaking ceremony for the Naperville Gold Star Families Memorial is set to be held Sunday at Veterans Park, city officials said.

The monument is sponsored by Naperville's Century Walk Foundation and the Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation. Town records indicate Naperville lost about 127 military members during wars throughout the years.

The ceremony will begin at 1:45 p.m. with music from the Naperville Municipal Band. Then, the Men's Glee Club will perform and the dedication will take place.

The monument is meant to honor Naperville families and friends who lost a loved one during a war. The fixture will be made out of granite and measure about 7-feet-tall and 15-feet-wide, with an inscription that reads: Homeland, Family, Patriot and Sacrifice.
