Gun Charges Filed Against 2 Men In Separate Arrests At Topgolf
Police say they found guns on two men, and cocaine on one of the men, at Topgolf last weekend.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Two men were arrested on gun charges related to separate incidents that were reported at Topgolf Friday and Saturday. Police say one of the men was found in possession of crack cocaine. The arrests come after more than a dozen gun-related charges have been reported at the recreation facility since September 2023.
Dijon Lane, 34, was charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver in connection with Friday's incident. Tavell Jackson, 44, was charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of a controlled substance in connection with Saturday's incident.
Police officers who were patrolling the parking lot of Topgolf around 6:30 p.m. Friday reported that they told a Lane to get out of his car after they smelled cannabis coming from it. According to police, they spotted a loaded Taurus .40 caliber PT740 "in plain view" near the car's gas pedal. Police say the gun had eight rounds in the magazine.

On Saturday, just after 10 p.m., police say they saw a Taurus 9mm Millennium G2 "in plain view" in the back of the passenger seat of a car. According to police, Jackson got into the back of the car and officers prevented the vehicle from exiting the premises, asking Jackson to get out of the car.
Officers reported finding 12.4 grams of crack cocaine in Jackson's jacket pocket. They also reported that there were twelve rounds in the magazine of the gun they found. Jackson was taken into custody without incident.
“Public safety remains the top priority of my office,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
Berlin added, “As convicted felons, both of these men have forfeited their right to legally possess a firearm. What I find particularly troubling are the allegations that both men brought a loaded firearm to a family friendly recreation facility. This type of behavior is inexcusable and will be fully prosecuted. I commend the Naperville Police Department for their continued commitment to public safety and for their proactive efforts in these two cases that resulted in the removal of dangerous weapons from our streets."
Lane is set to appear in court April 22 and Jackson is set to appear in court April 29.
