NAPERVILLE, IL — A Chicago man was arrested and a gun was seized after Naperville police got a call about a suspicious vehicle.

Mason J. Davis, 18, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with no serial number and possession of cannabis in connection with Sunday's incident.

Officers were called to the 1600 block of Westminster Drive around 9:40 p.m. after someone saw a car that was facing the wrong direction and noticed its lights were being turned off and on.

When police got to the scene, they say they found "cannabis in plain view" in the car. An investigation led to officers finding a gun with an extended magazine and no serial number in Davis's pocket, a news release said. They also reported finding "an airsoft rifle that looked like a real firearm" in the car.

“I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for our residents to call us when they see something out of the ordinary in their neighborhoods,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in a statement.

Arres added, “In this case, one simple observation and phone call led to the recovery of an untraceable gun and the arrest of the person illegally in possession of it. That’s a strong example of the good that can come from residents working in partnership with law enforcement. See Something, Say Something."
