Sip Wine While Shopping Artisanal Cheeses, Local Produce At Century-Old Grocery Chain

NAPERVILLE, IL — When Heinen Grocery opens on Chicago Avenue in late 2025, shoppers will be able to sip wine or beer while they browse produce from local farms, artisanal cheeses, fresh seafood, signature desserts baked in-house and more.

The 96-year-old grocery chain recently announced that its 46,000 square foot Naperville store is set to open at 1244 E. Chicago Ave. "later this year," per a news release.

Heinen's will offer a produce department that sources 70 percent of its goods from "Midwest farms in peak season," including some 150 items that are USDA certified as organic, the news release said.

Founded by a butcher, Heinen's has an in-house butcher shop. The store also gets fresh seafood deliveries six days a week.

In addition to groceries, Heinen's offers take-and-eat prepared foods. Customers will also be able to buy burritos, tacos and other food to eat inside the store or in its al fresco dining area.

Heinen's was founded in Ohio in 1929 and has since expanded to nearly two dozen locations throughout the Midwest. The Naperville location will be the fifth Heinen's store to open its doors in Illinois. The first of these opened in Barrington in 2012. Other Illinois Heinen's locations include Bannockburn, Glenview and Lake Bluff.

The Naperville Heinen's store will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
