Mosquito Control Begins In Naperville For 2024 Season

Naperville's Mosquito Control Program aims to help prevent West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne diseases.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Mosquito control has begun in Naperville for the 2024 season, in an effort to help prevent West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne diseases.

The mitigation efforts will include monitoring 11 mosquito traps and the distribution of chemicals that are EPA- and CDC-recommended.

The City of Naperville also suggests that residents do the following to help protect themselves against West Nile Virus:

  • Drain standing water and clean bird baths, ponds and fountains regularly
  • Wear mosquito repellant with 25 to 35 percent DEET when outdoors and reapply as needed
  • Wear repellant between dusk and dawn, when mosquito activity is heightened
  • Protect skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors, along with shoes that have closed toes

West Nile virus causes body aches, fever, vomiting, headache, diarrhea and rash. In rare cases, the virus can lead to encephalitis or meningitis.
