Motorcyclists Receive Life-Threatening Injuries in Multi-Vehicle Accident Wednesday Night

A couple riding on a motorcycle sustained life-threatening injuries Wednesday night after they were hit and thrown from a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at Herrick and Warrenville roads.

Naperville police received a 911 call at about 6:16 p.m. regarding an accident involving three vehicles and a motorcycle at Warrenville and Herrick roads, which closed the roads until about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

A 2004 Honda Accord, driven by Revanth Vema, 28, of Naperville, was travelling west on Warrenville Road, approaching Herrick Road, when it crossed over into the eastbound lanes of Warrenville Road and hit a 2000 Volvo S80 sedan heading east, according to the .

Vema then continued westbound and struck the Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the curb lane of eastbound Warrenville Road, police said. A tire that flew off of the Volvo during the accident then struck a 2008 Acura MDX.

Michael Dunker, 60, and his passenger Corrine Smith, 60, and both from Aurora, were thrown from the motorcycle after being hit, both received life-threatening injuries, police said. The couple was initially taken to for treatment, police said. Dunker is at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he is listed in Critical but Stable condition. Smith is at Loyola Hospital in Maywood. She is listed in stable condition, police said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

None of the vehicle drivers were injured in the accident, police said.

The accident remains under investigation, police said, and no charges or citations have been issued. Because the accident is under investigation, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident or if anyone will be cited or charged, Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell said.
