Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

She is a godsend and life-lifter. All her students love her! But I am speaking of the difference she made in my granddaughter's life, for whom I am the legal guardian. Ms. Roy came to be her teacher just as J. moved here from out of state. J. had been in an abusive and neglected home environment. Sometimes she was taken to school and sometimes not. Sometimes properly clothed and fed, and sometimes not. She arrived here angry, confused, depressed and unable to focus on her schoolwork. She also was lacking in social skills. My granddaughter was like a little broken bird. Ms. Roy looked beyond the brokenness gently and patiently helped bring the light back in J's eyes. She ignited a love of books and helped get J. up to standard reading levels, even coming to our home to tutor J. on her days off work. Five years later, as J. begins her 2nd year of high school-- now in the Honors program, Ms. Roy is still an active mentor and role model to her.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

Ms. Roy is the epitome of a teacher with a heart full of joy and positivity! Teachers can make or break a student's spirit and desire to learn. We were so blessed that Ms. Roy was the angel assigned to J. and our family. As a parent, she encouraged me and gave great suggestions, resources and ideas to keep Janessa motivated and confident to learn.
