Naperville City Councilman Grant Wherli has announced his candidacy for a seat in the Illinois House.
Wehrli will be running as a Republican to fill State Rep. Darlene Senger's seat, who launched her campaign for Congress in the 11th District last week.
"We need a fresh start in Springfield and I bring that leadership and perspective to Springfield," Wehrli said in a video posted on his campaign website. "No campaign is won by an individual, it takes all of us. So, with your help and support, we can turn Springfield around and make sure Naperville remains a great place."
Wehrli is a lifelong Naperville resident and has served on the City Council for seven years. On his campaign website, Wehrli highlighted the city's accomplishments during difficult economic times.
“The issues that we have successfully managed our way through during the Great Recession in Naperville are the same ones that the state has failed to address," Wehrli said on his campaign website. "Naperville is the example of how things should be done. Continued focus on the sustainability of pensions, reducing the tax burden while enhancing economic opportunities have led to a local economy and business environment in Naperville that is growing stronger each day.”
Wehrli lives in Naperville with his wife, Sharon and their sons Jake, 15, and Luke, 9.
The Illinois 41st General Assembly district covers most of Naperville and the southern portion of Warrenville.
