Naperville Man Indicted on 23 Counts in October Sexual Assault

Kenny Edwards was originally charged on Oct. 30 after assaulting a woman described as his estranged wife.

A Naperville man was indicted earlier this week on 23 counts related to the alleged domestic and sexual assault last month of a woman identified as his estranged wife.

Kenny Edwards, 34, of the 2800 block of Vernal Lane, was indicted Tuesday on 23 counts in DuPage County Court and was being held in the DuPage County Jail on a $200,000 bond, according to . Edwards was with aggravated domestic battery, criminal sexual assault, unlawful restraint and driving under the influence of alcohol. 

Upon further investigation, police determined that other crimes were committed, Naperville Police Department Sgt. Gregg Bell said in a news release. On Thursday, the department said, with the help of the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, it was able to secure the 23-count indictment, which was handed down Tuesday, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Edwards was indicted on seven counts of home invasion, six counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, three counts of criminal sexual assault, two counts of residential burglary, one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, one count of intimidation, and one count of unlawful restraint.

Police said they responded to a domestic call at 6:15 a.m. Oct. 30 in the 700 block of Benedetti Drive. According to Naperville police, the initial report was that a man had his hands or a weapon at the throat of a female.

Edwards fled the scene before officers arrived, and witnesses helped the woman and called police, according to Bell. Paramedics took the woman, who identified the man as her estranged husband, to Edward Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police were able to track down Edwards a few minutes after arriving at the home, according to Bell. He was stopped on Mill Street south of Diehl Road after a brief struggle with officers.
