Naperville Man Killed Crossing Street Near Fox Valley Mall In Aurora
The man, who lived in Naperville, died at Rush Copley Medical Center about an hour after he was struck by a car near Fox Valley Mall.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A 54-year-old Naperville man died Tuesday morning after he was struck by a car while attempting to cross Route 59 near the entrance to Fox Valley Mall, according to Aurora police.
The man was identified as Derrick Davis, of the 2500 block of Arcadia Circle in Naperville.
Aurora police and firefighters responded at 8:46 a.m. to the crash involving Davis and a black 2018 Infiniti Q50. Officers found the man in the middle of the Route 59 through-lane suffering from serious injuries, officials said. The car had also stopped at the scene.

An ambulance brought Davis to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:59 a.m.
Preliminary findings indicate the Infiniti was driving northbound in the middle lane when the pedestrian attempted to cross eastbound and entered the car's path. The driver attempted to stop but couldn't avoid the collision, police said.

The Kane County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
"Our hearts go out to Mr. Davis's family and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking loss," Police Chief Keith Cross said in a statement. "Incidents like this remind us all of the unpredictability of our roadways and the need for care and caution as we travel through our community."
