Naperville Man Pulled And Waved Gun In 'Road Rage': Police

A 30-year-old man with a record of more than 40 arrests and tickets has been charged with pulling a gun during an alleged road incident.

NAPERVILLE, IL – A 30-year-old Naperville man with a record of more than 40 arrests and tickets since 2003 has been charged with pulling a gun during an alleged road rage incident, according to police reports.

John I. Collazo, of the 1400 block of Normantown Road in Naperville, was arrested Sunday, May 21 at about 1:15 p.m. after he allegedly confronted a Glen Ellyn man near Route 59 and Bruce Lane, DuPage County court records said.

Collazo "exited his vehicle, pulled out a handgun, waved the gun and pointed it" at the other driver, according to the court file and as reported in the Chicago Tribune. He also "racked the slide and pointed and waved the handgun in the direction" of the other motorist. The gun was described in the file as being a .9-mm Jimenez Arm & Co. JA9. The file didn't disclose if the gun was loaded.

Collazo was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon, criminal damage to property and no valid state firearms owner's identification card, court records said.

Court records show Collazo has been arrested or ticketed more than 40 times in DuPage County since 2003 for such offenses as driving under the influence, resisting police and disorderly conduct. Records also show he has been sentenced to jail time on at least three occasions.

Collazo is being held in DuPage County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 5.
