Naperville School Board Member Questions Need for Good Friday Holiday
One district official cited possible low attendance as a reason for the holiday.

At a recent Naperville District 203 board meeting, Susan Crotty questioned why students would get Good Friday off, according to the Naperville Sun. Good Friday is the Christian holiday recognizing the crucifixion of Jesus, and it is celebrated two days before Easter.
Crotty, a board member first elected in 2005, questioned the school holiday in a discussion about the 2018-2019 school calendar.
"If we're going to choose one religion or one group, I just think we need to look at all of them," Crotty said.

District Chief Operating Officer Bob Ross noted that the calendar committee previously looked into the issue of Good Friday.
"It's my understanding and belief that we would have a large number of absences I think both of students and possibly of staff were we to have a day of school," Ross said.
