NAPERVILLE, IL — A Dolton man accused of illegally possessing a loaded gun and drugs was denied bail Friday, prosecutors said.

Eugene Williams, 34, was out on bond awaiting trial on charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon when he was arrested by Naperville police after a traffic stop on Aug. 11.

According to the DuPage State’s Attorney's Office, officers pulled over Williams after he failed to signal when changing lanes. When police spoke with Williams, they said they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.

Following a search of the car, police found a backpack in the front seat containing a 9mm "ghost gun," 34 pills of ecstasy, around one gram of heroin and about 140 grams of marijuana, prosecutors said.

“It is alleged that instead of conducting himself within the legal limitations placed upon him due to his past criminal behavior, Mr. Williams thumbed his nose once again at the law and decided to not only illegally arm himself with an untraceable gun, but also possess illegal narcotics,” State’s Attorney Bob Berlin said. "This is the second time this week and the seventh time within one month that a DuPage County judge has denied bail for a defendant accused of serious crimes."
