New Walking Trail Coming to Naperville Park

Naperville Park District plans to begin construction this summer on a limestone walking trail in May Watts Park.

May Watts Park, named for May Theilgaard Watts, writer, teacher and founder of the Illinois Prairie Path, will soon receive a walking trail of its own.

The Naperville Park District plans to begin construction this summer on a limestone walking trail that will provide a scenic walk through the park, located at 804 S. Whispering Hills Drive.

Following a series of meetings with residents in 2011 and 2012, the Park District and the stakeholder group agreed on a basic layout of the trail. In 2012, the Park District conducted an engineering study which confirmed the feasibility of the site layout plan that had been approved by the stakeholder group.

When finished, the trail will connect the north entrance of the park at Sequoia Road to the south entrance at Oakton Lane, including a loop around the southern portion of the pond.

“Trails continue to be one of the most desired park amenities in our community,” said Director of Planning Eric Shutes. “People are out walking all year round, enjoying the outdoors while getting the exercise they need,” he said.
