NAPERVILLE, Ill. – September 4, 2024 – Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program’s Trade Ally Development initiative graduated its second cohort of 13 local business owners. The education and networking hub is designed to help diverse contractors grow their businesses and help meet the state’s clean energy goals. The free annual program is open to small business owners and contractors within Nicor Gas’ service territory that are looking to elevate their business offerings within the rapidly expanding energy efficiency industry.
The 13 local energy efficiency, HVAC and weatherization business owners that participated in the program boosted their business potential through nine weeks of virtual classes. Additionally, participants learned about energy efficiency rebates and resources they could offer their customers, while also participating in one-on-one mentoring sessions and workshops to develop their business growth plans. They also received support to improve marketing, accounting, financial literacy, human resources and sales development to support the future success of their businesses.
“I completed the Nicor Gas Trade Ally Development Program as an opportunity to enhance our company’s knowledge and reputation, attract environmentally conscious customers and differentiate ourselves in the market,” said Lynetta Jones, a 2024 graduate who is the director of operations for All Weather Specialists, a local HVAC company that services the Chicagoland area. “Our team is excited about the opportunity to make an impact that will help drive cost savings, increase environmental and economic benefits and improve comfort and health and safety for our customers.”
The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program is dedicated to growing businesses in the energy efficiency arena to further support residential and business customers in Northern Illinois. Since last year, 23 participants have graduated from the Trade Ally Development initiative.
“We want to provide these graduates with the skills they need, but we also want to be a partner they can rely on,” said Kelly Lena, director of energy efficiency services at Nicor Gas. “Although this year’s training sessions are complete, these graduates have formed connections with the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program and their fellow cohort members that they can use to expand their business footprint and successfully serve customers for years to come.”
