Nicor Gas is announcing $100,000 in funding to support environmental stewardship programs, expanding on its commitment to protect the environment by investing in nonprofit organizations that contribute to clean air, conservation, preservation of green space and sustainable activities.

Starting March 1, 501(c)3 designated community organizations and nonprofits may apply for these environmental stewardship grants from Nicor Gas to support their initiatives. Applications open on March 1 at www.NicorGas.com/CharitableGiving and close on May 31, with funding decisions by July 31.

"At Nicor Gas, we are deeply committed to being good citizens where we serve, understanding that environmental stewardship is essential for fostering healthy and thriving communities for our customers," said Jackie Nagel, manager of Community Engagement at Nicor Gas. "We prioritize investing in impactful projects that align with our environmental goals. We take pride in partnering with nonprofits throughout our service area to support efforts that enhance the well-being of our planet and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come."

As the largest natural gas provider in Illinois, Nicor Gas is committed to creating, maintaining and sustaining 10,000 acres of open space in its service area and helping to achieve equitable access to these cultural, educational and recreational spaces.

Last year, the company awarded $100,000 in environmental stewardship grants to 20 organizations. Grants included:

McHenry County Conservation Foundation – Supports the restoration of the High Point Conservation Area, clearing out invasive species such as buckthorn, garlic mustard and box elders and planting native grasses, sedges and forbs.

Hoo Haven – Supports wildlife rehabilitation, providing medical care for injured and orphaned wildlife with the goal of restored health and release back into the wild.

Selected nonprofits and community organizations will be eligible to receive up to $5,000 in grant funds this year.
