Sarah Adam Earns Silver Medal At Paralympics In Wheelchair Rugby
The Naperville native began playing wheelchair rugby while studying occupational therapy.
NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville North alumnus Sarah Adam recently earned a silver medal in wheelchair rugby during the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, France.
This year marked the first Paralympics for Adam, who made history as the first woman selected to compete on the U.S. Paralympic mixed team in wheelchair rugby.
Team USA defeated Great Britain in the semifinals before falling to Japan in the gold medal game.

Before this year's Paralympics, Adam had previously earned gold in the 2023 Parapan American Games in Chile.
Adam first encountered wheelchair rugby while she was studying occupational therapy in 2019. She went on to compete in wheelchair rugby after volunteering in the sport.

Currently, Adam works as an assistant professor in occupational therapy and science at Saint Louis University.
Of competing in wheelchair rugby, Adam told Team USA, "At the end of the day, I’m just going out there being an athlete with my teammates and family that support me, which keeps me centered and grounded in a way that’s meaningful and impactful."
