September 11 Survivor To Share Story At Remembrance Ceremony In Naperville
The September 11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held at Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial Thursday.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A survivor of the September 11 attacks will share her story at Naperville's Remembrance Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial Thursday at 6 p.m.
Laura Murphy is a Woodridge resident who ran down 59 flights of stairs after a plane hit the North Tower, where she was working. In addition to Murphy's speech, remarks will be shared by Deputy Fire Chief Philip Giannattasio, Police Chief Jason Arres and Mayor Scott Wehrli.
The ceremony will open at 5:45 p.m. with a performance by the Naperville Municipal Band.

Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial was dedicated in 2003 to honor the memory of Shanower, a Naperville native who died Sept. 11 when a hijacked plane crashed into the Pentagon. The memorial is made from a steel beam from the World Trade Center, rubble from the Pentagon, granite from the Flight 93 plane crash in Pennsylvania and an outline of Shanower's boot.
