Washington Street Lane Reductions Begin Monday
Motorists can expect lane reductions on Washington Street from Monday until July 29, limiting access to the DuPage Children's Museum.

Submitted by the city of Naperville
Starting in the early morning hours of Monday, July 9, motorists traveling on Washington Street will experience lane reductions between 5th Avenue and Franklin Avenue due to watermain and electric duct bank work occurring in that area, weather permitting.
Work in this area will continue through July 29. During this time, traffic on Washington Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction beginning at 5th Avenue and continuing south to Franklin Avenue. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be shifted to the east side of Washington; the west side of Washington from North Avenue to Spring Avenue will be closed entirely due to the construction work.

Work on this project, which will provide increased reliability of the City’s water system, will take place primarily during daytime hours.
Residents and interested parties should also note there will be no access to the parking lot from Washington Street during this time while sidewalk and driveway improvements are being made to this access point. The Spring Avenue entrance may be utilized as an alternate route by turning onto Douglas Avenue, right on Webster Street and then right on Spring Avenue to access the lot. Commuters that utilize this lot should access the platform via the stairs at the northeast corner of the lot.

Pedestrian approaches at the intersections of North Avenue and Washington Street as well as Spring Avenue and Washington Street will be reconstructed during this time to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. A pedestrian detour route will be established and signage will be utilized to direct pedestrians appropriately.
The City strongly encourages motorists to utilize alternate routes and allow extra time to get to their destination while construction work is ongoing. Suggested alternate north/south routes include Mill Street and Loomis Street.
As with any construction project, the City would like to remind motorists to stay alert, use caution and abide by all traffic regulations when driving through construction zones. For safe driving tips in construction zones, visit www.naperville.il.us/constructionsafety.aspx.
