West Nile Virus Detected In Traps In Naperville
The city is urging residents to take precautions against West Nile Virus after mosquito traps yielded positive test results for the virus.
NAPERVILLE, IL — Mosquito traps have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Naperville, prompting officials to urge residents to take precautions against the virus.
The traps, which yielded positive test results in late August, are located on Jackson Avenue and Olesen Drive.
DuPage County saw this year's first human case of West Nile Virus in Glen Ellyn in mid-July. Will County also saw the season's first human case of West Nile Virus in mid-July in a man in his 60s from Bolingbrook.

The City of Naperville recommends that residents take the following measures against West Nile Virus.
- Wear mosquito repellant when outdoors that has 25 to 35 percent DEET
- Wear clothes that is light-colored and loose-fitting with long sleeves and pants between dusk and dawn
- Get rid of stagnant water, which can attract mosquitos
- Trim grass and bushes
- Inspect window and door screens for tears
Symptoms of West Nile Virus usually appear within two weeks of the infected bite. Patients may experience swollen lymph nodes, a fever, body aches and/or a rash that covers the "trunk" of their body.
