Whiz Kids: Special Olympians

Naperville Patch puts the spotlight on local students who are achieving, whether through sports, academics or community involvement.

Each week Naperville Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

  • Whiz Kids’ names: Abi Adesanya, Maura O'Gradu, Sammie Munson, Patrick Edwards, Allen Thames, Kevin Briegel, Tyler Nowak, Maura O'Grady and Abi Adesanya, Tyler Nowak, Chris Colucci, Sarvani Vemula, Ruth Pligge, Hayley Wiskari, Moira Morgan, Allen Thames, Griffen Shih-Hsieh, Ryan Wall
  • Whiz Kids’ schools:
  • Whiz Kids’ accomplishment: All of the students participated in Special Olympics competitions, including the Special Olympics State Track Meet on June 11 and 12 in Bloomington and at the Special Olympics Illinois Far West Suburban Area Bowling Tournament.
  • Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?): The bowling team won a Gold Medal and included: Ruth Pligge, Hayley Wiskari, Moira Morgan, Allen Thames, Griffen Shih-Hsieh, Ryan Wall.  At the track meet there were six first place finishes from Abi Adesanya, Maura O'Gradu, Sammie Munson, Patrick Edwards, Allen Thames in individual sports; and the 4 x 100 relay team: Kevin Briegel, Tyler Nowak, Maura O'Grady and Abi Adesanya. All together, all of the Whiz Kids named above were rewarded for placing between first and fifth place.
