Trio Flees Cops After Stealing Hundreds In Clothes From Nike Store

NAPERVILLE, IL — A trio of women faces felony charges after police say they stole hundreds of dollars worth of items from the Nike Well Collective store in downtown Naperville Wednesday.

Shawanda Outlaw, 28, Emiyaya Shannon, 27, and Martasia Barney, 27, all of Chicago, were charged with burglary and retail theft. Barney, who is accused of driving the trio's getaway car, was also charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer.

Police say Shannon and Outlaw came into the store around 4:20 p.m. and stole about 20 pieces of merchandise. Shannon and Outlaw are accused of getting in a car that police say Barney was driving.

Officers tried to pull Barney over for a traffic stop shortly after. Barney is accused of continuing to drive away.

A Chicago police helicopter was used to track the car and the women were taken into custody in Chicago.

“DuPage County law enforcement is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our residents and retail businesses,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

He added, “The apprehension of the defendants in this case sends the simple message to would-be thieves that if you come to DuPage County to steal, we will work together and use every tool available to us, including air support, to arrest, charge and prosecute you. Retail theft is not a victimless crime and results in lost profits for business owners, lost wages for employees and higher prices for consumers."

Outlaw, Barney and Shannon are set to appear in court May 5.
