Abortion Rights Supporters Rally In Beverly

An abortion rights rally in Beverly drew anger, defiance and unity as more than 100 residents gathered at 103rd Street and Western Avenue, before walking to Beverly Park for speeches and comments. The rally was one of hundreds that took place Saturday in communities large and small across the United States.


Frankfort Man Sentenced to 25 Years For Sexual Assault Of A Child

A Frankfort man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexual assault of a child, according to a news release from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul.

Jeremy Coates, 39, was sentenced Wednesday by Livingston County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer H. Bauknecht after pleading guilty to a Class X felony count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to the release.


2 Police Officers Injured, Airlifted After Chicago Heights Crash: PD

Two Chicago Heights police officers were taken to the hospital Sunday night after officials said a driver ran a red light and crashed into a police car.

Police said a white Jeep Grand Cherokee was found in the middle of the intersection at 14th Street and Ashland Avenue Sunday at around 10:36 p.m. A police squad car was to the east of the intersection with "visible damage," Police Chief Tom Rogers wrote in an email to Patch.


Suspect Charged In Oak Lawn Road Rage Shooting

A man believed to be the shooter in a road rage incident last week in Oak Lawn was picked up Sunday on an arrest warrant by police at O'Hare International Airport, prosecutors said. Mario Mallard, 36, of South Holland, appeared Monday before Cook County Judge Donald Havis on a felony charge of aggravated battery with a firearm.


Oak Forest Key Club Raises $1,000 In Change For 6-Year-Old With Cancer

Oak Forest High School students presented a check for one thousand dollars to the mother of a south suburban girl who is battling brain cancer.

Erin DeVries' 6-year-old daughter Maggie has an inoperable tumor on her brain stem. After hearing the young girl's story, the Oak Forest Key Club made Maggie the recipient of a "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser that asked students to bring in spare change.


Memorial Day Field Masses Return To Chicago-Area Catholic Cemeteries

For the first time in two years, Memorial Day field Masses will be held in person at Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Cemeteries across the region on Monday, May 30. Active military and veterans will be asked to come forward for a special blessing followed by the playing of Taps.

The stepsons of a dead, mob-associated businessman have been charged in federal court with four counts of wire fraud for their roles in providing bribes and kickbacks related to red-light cameras to the then-mayor of Oakbrook Terrace, according to an indictment released Thursday by the United States District Court, Northern Division of Illinois.
