Drugs Suspected In 3 Deaths Over Weekend: Coroner

The Will County Coroner's Office reported Tuesday three more deaths in Joliet, Romeoville and unincorporated New Lenox.

NEW LENOX, IL — The Will County Coroner on Tuesday announced the deaths of three people between Saturday and Tuesday, according to a post on the coroner's office Facebook page. The deaths happened in Joliet, Romeoville and unincorporated New Lenox.

The coroner's office wrote that the deaths were related to "suspected drug toxicity," possibly linked to fentanyl; however, a final cause and manner of death will be determined "after a thorough investigation," according to the post.

The names of the three people who died were not released.

The coroner's office has reported 53 overdose deaths in Will County involving fentanyl this year, not including the three reported Tuesday, according to data on its website. There were 111 overdose deaths related to fentanyl in 2021.

In a 24-hour period between June 6 and June 7, the coroner's office reported eight probable overdose deaths. Those deaths happened in Wilmington, New Lenox, Lockport and Joliet.

At least five more probable overdose deaths have happened in Joliet between June 6 and June 12, according to the coroner's office.

That brings the total of suspected overdose deaths In June to at least 16.
