It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas In The Commons
The celebration of the Christmas season returns starting Saturday and runs through Dec. 19.
NEW LENOX, IL — Christmas in the Commons is back in New Lenox, and this year's events have something for everyone with three weekends packed with holiday festivities.
From snowball fights to live music to ice sculpting to visits from beloved holiday characters, there will be no shortage of activities for the young and the young at heart.
Here's a breakdown of events listed by date and time, according to information posted by the Village of New Lenox, so readers can be sure not to miss a thing. (Note: Each day's activities run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.)

Events Throughout Christmas in the Commons
- 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visits with Santa in the Village Hall. Santa will be behind his workshop and visitors will not be allowed to sit on his lap; however, photos are allowed and families can take their own photos.
- 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Horse-drawn Wagon Rides. Ends at 7:40 p.m. Dec. 19.
- Ice Skating: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays Dec. 4 through Dec. 23, and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays; noon to 8 p.m. Dec. 26 through Jan. 2; Dec. 31 - noon to 4 p.m. Closed Jan. 1. Skate rentals are $7 cash or $7.50 card. (For more information on Ice Skating, click here.)

- 4:30 p.m. Official Village Commons lighting ceremony.
- 5 p.m. Kids vs. First Responders Snowball fight.
- Visits from "Frozen" characters Elsa and Anna. (Throughout the day).
- Free popcorn, courtesy of Old Plank Trail Community Bank; free cookies, courtesy of Fleckenstein's Bakery. (Both throughout the day.)

- 5:30 to 7 p.m. Lamplight Singers performance.

Dec. 11
- Gingerbread House Contest begins and runs through Dec. 19. Winners announced Dec. 20. Registration open through Friday. Click here for details.

- 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lincoln-Way West High School Madrigals performance.
- 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Spotlight Arts Center performance.
- 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visits with the Grinch.
- Food truck vendors: Handful Bread Co., Lil Deb's Mobile Eats.
Dec. 12
- 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Liberty Junior High School Madrigals performance.
- 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ice carving demonstration.
- 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Lamplight Singers performance.
- Visits with Santa's reindeer. (Throughout the day.)

Dec. 18
- 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visits with Buddy the Elf.
- 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lincoln-Way Area Chorale performance.

- 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Martino Junior High School Madrigals performance.
- 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ice carving demonstration.

- 7:45 p.m. Santa's send off.
- Visits with Santa's reindeer. (Throughout the day.)
