The Warriors orange robes made the stadium look as though it were on fire with students ready to graduate.
The Class of 2013 was led onto the athletic field Monday night by Valedictorian Deanna DiMonte and Salutatorian Amanda DeSalvo as the Lincoln-Way West music department played “Land of Hope and Glory” by Elgar.
The Class of 2013 from Lincoln-Way West graduated in an outside ceremony June 3 in the football field. A total of 290 students received their diplomas. This was the first class, said Principal Monica Schmidt, to be "all West."
The four-year-old school celebrated not only the Class of 2013 but also the fact that no other graduates from L-W West had been a Warrior for all four years. The others had been Knights for at least a year before moving into the newest school in Lincoln-Way Dist. 210.
Board of Education President Arvid Johnson congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to keep West’s motto of “By Our Deeds We Are Known” in mind as they continue through life.
“If you believe in and adhere to that principle – your principle – I have every confidence that you will continue to build upon and enhance the great personal legacy that you have already established at Lincoln-Way West High School,” he said.
“We are proud of what you have achieved and look forward to what is yet to come,” he added.
