Long-Vacant New Lenox Kmart Property Sells For $2.9 Million

The sale was closed Jan. 16, the new owner said.

NEW LENOX, IL — The long-vacant Kmart property in New Lenox has been purchased, at a price tag of $2.9 million.

The deal on the property at 1500 W Lincoln Highway was closed January 16, according to commercial brokersMid America Real Estate and TransformCo Properties.

Crete-based T&S Trailer Pool, Inc. and owner Stan Baran purchased the property.

Baran bought it for investment purposes, he told Patch in an email, and was drawn to it for location and acreage. He has no immediate plans for the property, he said.

T&S Trailer Pool, Inc. is a trucking repair and sales business. Its owners are listed as Baran and Tom Lizak. New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann said he's not certain if the lot is zoned for a business similar to T&S, but it would not be the Village's preferred use of it.

"We’re not sure if it would comply," Baldermann said, "but we don’t want trucks occupying that space."

The 84,000-square foot Kmart store closed permanently in 2016. The property's major selling points were listed as two full access points to Route 30, as well as location at a full interchange with I-80, The lot offers 410 parking spaces, as well.
