Minor Fire at Riverton Cabinet Co. on Schoolhouse Road
Lots of fire trucks and apparatus captured people's attention, but the fire at Riverton Cabinet Co. was fortunately minor.

The New Lenox Fire Protection District was called about 1:45 p.m. Thursday to Riverton Custom Cabinets, 22000 Schoolhouse Road. There was small fire in the duct work.
According to the report, the building had already been evacuated and the fire contained to a small area. Firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours.
It's protocol, said Erika Leader, public education coordinator, to send a significant amount of fire trucks and apparatus to the scene of what is referred to as a "target area." Due to the industrial equipment and materials, especially sawdust, the New Lenox Fire Protection District responds with plenty of equipment.

The material at that site "is very combustible." The response is to ensure safety and control of the scene if the situation grows worse. 'There's a potential risk for a serious fire" in that industrial area of town.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known, she added.
