New Lenox Homeowners Get $1.57M Back In Tax Rebates: Village

NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox homeowners who qualified for the Village's property tax rebate will soon start seeing those checks in the mail, Trustee David Butterfield announced during the Village of New Lenox Board of Trustees Monday meeting.

The tax rebates applied to the Village's portion of property taxes for 2020 paid in 2021.

This year, the Village is handing out a total of $1,574,274.06 in rebates, according to Butterfield. Checks are scheduled to begin going out Monday, he said.

"We've been doing this for so long that we don't even make a lot of fanfare out of it," quipped New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann.

To have qualified for the tax rebate, New Lenox homeowners must have been the owner of a single-family home, a townhome, a residential condominium or an apartment unit within a building that he or she owns. Residents had to reside in the property at the time they applied for the refund.

Those residents who met the criteria and submitted the proper documents to the Village by Dec. 31, 2021, were eligible for the rebate, up to 85 percent of what they paid in the Village's portion of their property taxes.
