New Lenox Library Hosted Active Shooter Preparedness Training

In the post-Sandy Hook School environment, New Lenox Police headed an "active shooters" training session.

In the wake of the December 2012 Sandy Hook School shootings, New Lenox Police put together a proven emergency response program.  The program was held in conjunction with the New Lenox Library District.

On May 3, NLPD held a training that deals with active shooters.  Kate Hall, library director, said the program was designed to educate staff on how to respond should an active shooter situation occur at the facility.

Topics covered include the Federal Management Agency’s Run Hide Fight program, what to do when police enter the building, how to contact local authorities should an event occur, and steps to take in the aftermath of an event.

Hall said, “We hope that by working collaboratively with the police and village, we all can be prepared to prevent and respond to an active shooter, should it ever occur in a government facility.”
