Providence Catholic Cheerleaders Named Grand National Champions

Providence Catholic High School varsity cheerleaders were crowned Grand National Champions at the NCA Open Nationals Championship. They were honored for their achievement Feb. 25 at the New Lenox Village Board meeting.

Mayor Tim Baldermann read a proclamation in their honor, citing their hard work and commitment.   

The 21-member squad captured the award Feb. 23 in Louisville, KY. The Celtics took first place and were named National Champions in the Advanced Small Varsity Division, said Jamie O'Brien, PCHS communications director.

"They also had the highest score of all the divisions at the competition, which earned them the Grand National Champion title." In addition, the Celtics received the “Best Tumbling Award” and the “Innovative Choreography Award.” This marks the team’s fifth consecutive National Champion Title and the third Grand Champion National title overall, according to O'Brien. 

The PCHS cheerleaders on Feb. 2 earned the school's first State Championship title at the Illinois High School Association Cheerleading Tournament in Bloomington. The squad also won its IHSA Sectional Cheerleading Championship title for the third year in a row, said O'Brien.

The Celtic girls had an undefeated 2012-2013 season.  

The squad is comprised of freshmen-seniors. The members of the varsity cheerleading team are:  Seniors:  Brianna Chibe , Homer Glen, Alyssa Gialamas, Frankfort, Courtney McEnery, Orland Park, Alyssa Meurer , Homer Glen, Lauren Murphy, Orland Park, Roslyn Parayo, Orland Park, Gabriella Senese, Lemont, Bailey Sineni, Homer Glen and Taylor Vennetti , Orland Park.

The juniors on the squad are: Brittany Charnot, Orland Park, Morgan Duesing, Tinley Park, Skylar Evans, Mokena, Meghan Marth, Mokena and Tori Vennetti, Orland Park. 

Cheerleader Maryssa Presbitero, Orland Park, is a sophomore. The freshmen varsity cheerleaders are: Allison Bebar, Plainfield, Sera Cummings, New Lenox, Bridget Fudala, Homer Glen, Nicole Glynn, Lemont, Dana Joseph, Orland Park, and Carson Sineni, Homer Glen.  The team is led by Laura Duesing, head coach and Beth Gornick, assistant coach.
