Random Acts Of Kindness Day 2022: New Lenox Neighbors Give Thanks

Patch asked New Lenox readers, "What's the nicest thing a neighbor has done for you?" Here are some of the responses we got.

NEW LENOX, IL — Thursday is Random Acts of Kindness Day. New Lenox residents on social media are likely to see their feeds full of #MakeKindnessTheNorm, the theme for this year.

Patch asked New Lenox residents on Facebook, "What's the nicest thing a neighbor has done for you?" We got more than 40 responses. A few of the responses we got were so inspirational that we thought we'd share them with you, dear readers.

  • Andrea Thomas: My neighbor’s daughter bought me a dozen roses for Valentine’s Day yesterday ❤️
  • Rhonda Reano: Went down to sit with my elderly mom the day my boyfriend died of a massive heart attack at my house and the police called me to come home immediately. I couldn't leave mom alone.
  • Karen A. O'Connor: Snow removal and tequila shots!!
  • Bobbi Walker: Jane has been there supporting me after my grandson passed away unexpectedly in my home. She and John, her husband, have always been there for me helping whenever they can. They are both very special people.
  • Catherine Hayes: Made homemade chicken soup for me after my chemotherapy.
  • Melissa Ann: Wiped up blood that was all over our floor after a freak accident occurred.
  • Terry Bryan: Our 50th Anniversary occurred right at the height of Covid while we were all on lockdown. My sweet neighbor Anita Howard Sobkoviak made a beautiful 50th Anniversary sign and hung it on our front door and then wrote Happy Anniversary in colored chalk on big letters in our driveway. I still have the sign. Such a thoughtful lady.

The Denver-based Random Acts of Kindness Foundation's first RAK Day was in 1995. The small nonprofit's initiative caught on, was celebrated in New Zealand by 2004 and has since been celebrated around the world as a way for people to show kindness to others in small, simple ways.
