Shooter In New Lenox Domestic Disturbance Dead: Police
The 21-year-old was pronounced dead at Silver Cross. Officials said the man shot his father and was later shot by police.
NEW LENOX, IL — A man who shot his father early Monday during a domestic disturbance in New Lenox was pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital after being shot by police, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.
Police said Alexander O. Wheeler, 21, of New Lenox, shot his 52-year-old father in the face during a domestic disturbance in the 1900 block of Grand Prairie Drive at approximately 4:12 a.m. Wheeler's mother attempted to intervene and was beaten by the 21-year-old, according to New Lenox Police Deputy Chief Micah Nuesse.
Wheeler fled the scene in a 2020 silver Honda Civic, according to police. The vehicle was found at approximately 5 a.m., and police attempted to pull Wheeler over, police said. Wheeler refused to stop, and police gave chase.

The chase ended up back in the area of the original domestic disturbance. Wheeler drove through a backyard in the residential area and then exited his vehicle, police said. A Will County deputy attempted to use a Tazer to subdue Wheeler, but the Tazer was ineffective, police said.
Wheeler continued to disregard Will County deputies' commands and was shot by a deputy, police said. Wheeler was taken to Silver Cross Hospital for his injuries, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 6:02 a.m., according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

Wheeler's father was also taken to Silver Cross, police said. He sustained serious injuries but was conscious at the scene. His current condition is not known.
This is the second time since November that a Will County Sheriff's deputy has used their weapon in the line of duty. Sheriff's deputies shot and killed Jabbar Muhammad, of Joliet, Nov. 6 when Muhammad stabbed his 70-year-old grandfather in the neck, according to police.
New Lenox Police Department is investigating Monday's domestic shooting, while the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the officer involved shooting that followed, police said.
